Before applying for a building permit, a developer may request to schedule a meeting with the Economic Review Committee (ERC), which includes representatives from Permit Department who will provide project requirements and feedback on preliminary site plans. This service allows developers the opportunity to become aware of possible challenges to the project early in the development process.
ERC meetings include staff from the following City permitting departments:
– Engineering/Transportation Planning
– Municipal Utilities
At the meeting, the project proponent is asked to briefly describe the project and the site proposed. Each ERC member then comments on the project and will provide answers to questions on topics such as zoning, use permits, and public improvements. The meeting is informal and usually lasts no more than 90 minutes. While not mandatory, most developers find the meeting is most productive if they bring a site plan and/or preliminary development plans to the meeting.
