The Stocked Full of Produce infrastructure grant program assists corner and convenience store owners with needed infrastructure upgrades to promote the sale and storage of healthier food options. Healthy corner stores have the power to positively impact the health of community members by providing easier access to healthy foods, such as fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables, whole grain snack items, and low-fat dairy products. Funds are awarded in the form of a grant, which can be used to make improvements such as the installation of new refrigeration or shelving.
Do I Qualify?
– Retail properties, such as convenience or corner stores located within targeted areas, known as Food Deserts, in Stockton city limits. Properties outside of these areas will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis for eligibility in accordance with CDBG regulations.
– Eligible use of funds, include: Improvements to the store layout that encourages customers to purchase healthier food options; Infrastructure improvements that support the storage of healthier foods options; Eligible equipment such as cold storage units, shelving, or storage for healthier food options; or Labor for installation of improvements.
–Qualifying commercial businesses are eligible for one (1) grant of up to $10,000 under this program.
How to Apply
A completed application must be submitted to the Economic Development Department for review. If the project is deemed eligible, an agreement will be executed between the applicant and the City of Stockton prior to the issuance of a building permit.
Grants cannot be issued for work started prior to formal grant approval.Apply Now
